The process of getting started will go something like this:

1.  Your teacher will set up a 'taster session' at which he or she will be the speaker in a kind of 'mini' café. This will give you a feel of what a café is like, so you can decide if it something you want to happen in your school. If you decide Café Sci is right for your school, then your teacher will help you put together a student organising team. He or she will also start you thinking about how to select your topics, choose your venue, publicise your cafés and generally work out how things will run. Before long you'll have made decisions such as the topic of the first Café Sci and who is responsible for what in your team.

2. Before the first café, your team will probably meet at least twice to continue with the arrangements and check that everything is on track (see 'The team' for details of different roles and activities). Based on your decisions, your teacher co-ordinator will arrange the speaker and be on hand to help you with any questions or problems.

3. Your first Café Sci! The teacher will be there to support you but your team will chair the meeting, welcome the audience, look after the speaker and ensure that the café runs smoothly. A lunchtime Café Sci could run something like this:

12.10 - Doors open
12.15 - Welcome and introduction
12.17 - Speaker
12.30 - Open discussion
12.50 - Event ends

4. At the end of your first café it is good idea to get together with your teacher co-ordinator, to discuss how everything went, identify any problems and things to change for next time.

5. Then, the whole process starts again!
