Café Sci relies on the support of teachers to get a café up and running, attend cafés and enthuse students.

Every teacher will organise their cafe in the way that suits their school best. - you may choose to organise the café programme yourself or gather a group of students together to form an organising team and work in the background to support them.

Avenues of approach aren't restricted to science. Because the topics are being questioned and discussed, rather than taught, the initiative may come from teachers of religious education, democracy studies, politics, citizenship courses or media studies, or from librarians and other specialist staff.

Schools seeking Specialist Status have to provide evidence of new initiatives and starting a Café Sci may well be seen as an appropriate activity.There might well be benefits in the form of extra input into the curriculum and the building of valuable personal links with university colleagues.
