Should scientists be allowed to test on animals?

British law currently states that all new drugs must be tested on animals before they are allowed to be used as human medicines. In some other countries, testing cosmetics on animals is allowed but this is not the case in the UK. People who are pro-animal testing argue that it can save human lives but those who are against it claim it causes needless suffering to animals. What do you think?
