The British Science Association is dedicated to advancing the public understanding, accessibility and accountability of the sciences and engineering.

The British Science Festival is one of Europe's largest science festivals, bringing you the latest in science, technology and engineering.

The week long, jam-packed programme offers the biggest celebration of science, engineering and technology in Europe. With loads of events for everyone, thousands of people join us for talks, plays, debates, hands-on activities and more. 

CREST (Creativity in Science and Technology) is the nationwide curriculum enrichment award scheme for project work in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), run by the British Science Association. Through CREST, young people aged 11-19 explore the real nature of STEM by doing their own creative project work. CREST Awards are available at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, depending on the amount and depth of work carried out. Visit the website for more information.

 


The Primary, Secondary and Advanced Leaders Award for STEM is open to all students between the ages of 5 to 19yrs.

To achieve the award the students have to write an application letter to become an ambassador for the school centred around STEM and interview a professional from the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. Video interviews can be submitted at any age however a written article must accompany it for pupils over 9yrs. The best articles will be published on the Leaders website and circulated to the organisations that support the aims of the project and the wider press. Help can be given to locate individuals from specific fields /careers.

Guidance notes for teachers and students, links to STEMNET and professionals who could be interviewed, and previous interviews can be found on the website.


 Connecting Science is a social network for scientists and science students who want to inspire non-specialists about their work.

You will find like-minded people who can offer moral support and exchange ideas and experiences of performing all kinds of outreach. It's a place to find resources and information about funding, outreach opportunities and training. There are regular updates on science communication news, the chance to debate and ask questions and tell people about events.

Join in, and become part of a grand tradition of scientists from Faraday to Feynman, who saw the benefits of sharing science and its wonders with the wider community.

Ignition*

Come Alive With Science 2010

Are you based in the East Midlands? And are you working in a science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM)-based career? If so, the Ignition* team would like to hear from you. Come Alive With Science 2010 matches STEM professionals and creative practitioners to work with young people and teachers in the East Midlands. This team will develop creative STEM activities in the run up to and during National Science and Engineering Week for feeder primary schools, parents and the general public. We pay all practitioners for their time.  Science in School is a new European journal to promote inspiring science teaching. It covers biology, physics, chemistry, maths and earth sciences, highlighting the best in teaching and cutting-edge research, and focusing on interdisciplinary work.

Walking with robots

What is a Robot? What do we want robots to do in the future? What can they do now? Can robots have personalities? Can a fully-functional conscious robot be developed? If so, would it be human? And should it have rights?

Walking with Robots is a three-year programme of public events funded by the EPSRC that aims to address these questions and more.
