Hosted a cafe on:-
How safe is the medicine we take? Is alternative medicine replacing the normal medicine?
Speaker: Celestine Obua, Professor of Pharmacology, Deputy Dean College of Health Sciences, Makerere University.
No medicine is safe
There is no ‘safe’ medicine. All medicines, including simple painkillers like Paracetamol or aspirin, taken irresponsibly, can be harmful.
Conventional, complementary or alternative medicine?
Complementary medicine, such as vitamins, supplements conventional medicine. Alternative treatments, such as acupuncture, which lack scientific proof, are not approved by conventional doctors.

echnology and medicine
Tele-medicine is a new field in which advanced technology is used to carry out operations. For example, a doctor in the USA can ‘operate’ on a patient in Russia. Lasers have enabled new ways of carrying out surgery, for example on tumours and for eye operations.
