Hosted a cafe on:-
Black holes
Speaker: Gasper Obua
Some of the girls had heard that some scientists had predicted that in 2012, a black hole was going to engulf the Earth! They wanted to know whether this was true!
Gasper told the girls that in the centre of our galaxy, there exists a black hole: a term used to decribe points in the universe with very high gravitational force that suck in everything near it including light!. Luckily, he said, the Earth is far from the black hole and not likely to be engulfed for millions of years!
The students asked:
- Have scientists observed black holes or is it speculation?
- Is a black hole cylindrical?
- What is the shape of the star?
- Does the black hole grow as it eats the stars?
- Can life be supported in any star?
- How often are stars sucked into the black hole?
