Time Travel
Date 6th October 2009
Speaker: Celestine Obua, Physics teacher, St. Kizito S.S.

According to Celestine, the myth of time travel dates back to 700 BCE, to a Hindu myth about a king who stayed in his bath for three days but when he came back, had travelled 300 years in the past! H.G. Wells published the Time Machine in 1895 and of course, it is a staple of science fiction films.
Celestine explained the theory of special relativity and how could allow travel into the future, if one travels at a speed close to the speed of light. Students argued that it is possible to travel into the future and not into the past. The students discussed the paradoxes and puzzles of time travel.
Students asked:
- is it like dreaming?
- is time travel limited to the mind?
- how can we predict the future?
- will the earth be damaged by the year 10,000?
The students chose their new leaders: Jane Amoding (Co-ordinator), Catherine Masiko (Publicist) and Sembire (Logistics person).
